The launch of Apple Vision Pro signals the arrival of the spatial computing era, as Apple seamlessly integrates digital content into the real world, offering users a whole new interactive experience. Vision Pro is not just an entertainment and gaming device; Apple also aims to create a new spatial computing ecosystem that expands into various fields such as film and television entertainment, office work, live sports broadcasting, education, industry, healthcare, design, and more, showcasing its unlimited potential and wide range of applications.
According to Apple’s statistics, by the end of 2022, there were a total of 1.7832 million apps available on the Apple App Store, giving Apple Vision Pro a unique advantage in terms of developer ecosystem. In mid-January 2024, half a month before the official launch of Vision Pro, Apple introduced the Vision Pro App Store. Developers can release applications for Vision Pro and list them on this app store. As of March 17th, it has been recorded that 1,189 native apps specifically designed for Vision Pro have been launched. In addition, other Apple platform apps can also be run on Vision Pro in a compatible format, to some extent enriching the content supply.
Currently, the app design in Vision Pro focuses on user experience and immersion. For example, it supports placing virtual objects or information in space, providing users with interactive features with the real world, such as measuring distances and viewing outdoor scenery, greatly enhancing the user’s spatial experience. In addition, there are a larger number of tool and efficiency apps in Vision Pro, with gaming apps accounting for only about 12%, reflecting the product positioning of Vision Pro as a “spatial computing device” and its distinct difference from other XR devices that focus on entertainment and gaming.
VR Gyro released the “Apple Vision Pro Spatial Computing Content Ecosystem Report,” which provides a detailed analysis of the content ecosystem of the App Store for Vision Pro. The report is based on data from the App Store in Apple Vision Pro, with application statistics up until February 14th, 2024, and special statistical times will be marked in the text.
